Project Apparition Development Log

Hello fellow spoopsters! Time for our weekly update. As usual we have been busy. Our goals are big, but so is our heart for it. This week we have been working on getting players from the lobby into a haunt, but also we have been working on ‘The Ghostly Grimoire’ and Ghost AI!

Loading and unloading of haunts is nearly done, it’s a pretty complex process that needs to be extensively tested, it’s taking longer than I expected but it's progressing. So far we can join a lobby, ready up and load a haunt. The transition into the mission map works fine. Next step is unloading and going back into the lobby.

Equipment can be picked up and dropped, I thought it was working, I had some issues but I solved them in the end, you can cycle through your equipment as well. Smartphone and flip-lighter are also functional in terms of putting them in your hand and removing them.

The smartphone has some very basic functionality, players can add friends and send lobby invites, work has already been started on text messaging.

Ghost AI development has commenced! So, to explain a bit about the ghosts in Project Apparition. Ghosts in PA have automation, they will be able to think, they have things they like to do, ways they like to behave, they have a personality, whilst keeping within the bounds of their types.

We express this by adding multiple layers of definition using randomity and predefined constraints. One of these layers is traits. Ghosts are all generated with a set of personality traits, these traits are the main drivers for a ghosts behaviour, ghosts will generate with predefined traits based on their type, but will also generate with a random trait too. More on ghosts next week!

The ‘The Ghostly Grimoire’ is a ghost hunting handbook so to speak, every player will have one of these old and eclectic books, these books are a collection of paranormal research that are passed down generation to generation within the member families of an enigmatic ghost hunting society.

This book will serve as both a source of information, and also provide a way for you to record your own research notes and even add your own photos! Players will be able to pick up and read each other's Grimoires when they visit their apartment lobby, but if you don’t want others spying your notes, you can lock the book!

Additionally within the book preview video, there is some information about the ghosts we are featuring in Early Access and the personality traits list!

Ps. Really wanted proper book page turns but it’s taking a lot longer than expected. :*(
